Having Your Carpet Cleaned Doesn’t Always Mean Getting the Results You Want!

Have you ever cleaned a clients carpet, only to find that days later it looks as if you never touched it? There are many reasons for this, but usually it is recurring spots that are the culprits. As you clean, they seem to disappear – only to return once the carpet has dried.
You don’t want to lose clients because of problems like this. There are a few things you should explain to customers so that you don’t risk losing them. Even if they don’t agree with you, at least you have explained the situation, and what will help.
Fabric protectors are recommended to protect carpet from future stains caused by spills. This will insure that the fibers won’t absorb substances, which means there should be no stains left behind. Many times, your customers will attempt cleaning their carpet themselves, which can lead to stains that are tougher to remove.
Using the right spotters is essential, but make sure you leave no residue behind. An acid-side rinse will remove more residue. You know that some stains are harder to remove than others – pet urine, wine, grape juice and other substances that are red or dark in color require special treatment. Use the right carpet cleaning products, and you will have very happy customers!
Many times, spots spread when they reach the backing of the carpet. Using a low-moisture cleaner is something you should consider to keep spots at bay, and also helps keep the backing dry. You may also want to use a fan to help the spot dry before it “wicks” back up to the surface.
If you are certain a spot will return, here are some ideas to consider.
Try encapsulation rinses, or precondition with an encapsulant to increase the polymer load on the carpet fiber surfaces. This leaves crystallized polymers behind that “collect” the grime that can make spots reappear.
You may also want to try anti-soiling treatments and powdered poultices. White towels work well when folded several times and placed on the cleaned spot, then weighted down until dry.
Use common sense when cleaning carpet. Don’t use too much moisture on the spots, and make use of fans or other air movers that will allow for faster drying.

That rss option on your site here is awesome, you should tell people about it in your upcoming post. I haven’t noted it a first, now I’m using it every morning to check on any updates. I’m on a very slow dial-up link in Ohio and it’s rather frustrating to sit there and wait for such a long time ’til the page loads… but hey, I just found your rss page and added it to the Google Reader and there you are… I’m always up-to-date! Well pal, keep up the good work and make that rss button a little bigger so that other people can enjoy that as well
